Description

n8n is hiring a Staff Platform Architect to shape and evolve the core platform architecture across execution, infrastructure, data, and frontend systems. The role owns architectural direction, distributed-systems and data foundations, platform interfaces, technical decisions, RFCs, and engineering mentorship across multiple teams. It is a remote-first Staff role with visa sponsorship available for Germany; other countries require existing work authorization. Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: Staff-level architectural ownership across multiple systems or teams, including migrations, re-architectures, or foundational platform initiatives.
Designing and operating distributed systems involving asynchronous processing, idempotency, state machines, queues, consistency, and resilience.
Working on data-intensive systems involving persistence, performance, isolation, migrations, and operational reliability.
Strong TypeScript experience and substantial backend systems development with Node.js beyond conventional CRUD applications.
Experience with workflow engines, orchestration platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure-heavy SaaS products.
Designing systems involving tenant isolation, resource management, data boundaries, or noisy-neighbour concerns.
Contributing to or maintaining open-source software and understanding public contracts and backward compatibility.
Decomposing monolithic systems or leading incremental architectural migrations without disrupting product delivery.
Designing products that work consistently across managed cloud and self-hosted environments.
Deep knowledge of distributed systems concepts, consistency models, consensus, formal methods, or rigorous approaches to system correctness.
Preferred Qualifications: Frontend platform architecture involving canvas applications, plugin systems, real-time applications, web workers, or complex rendering environments.
Designing or operating systems using event sourcing, sagas, durable execution, or related state-management patterns.
Creating clear contracts, abstractions, and developer experiences for other engineers.
Considering instrumentation, debugging, incident response, rollout safety, and operability in system design.
