Description
OpenAI is hiring a Staff-level Data Scientist to lead the statistical direction and technical strategy of its core experimentation platform. The role focuses on improving the rigor, reliability, and usability of experiments across product and research teams, addressing challenges such as sample ratio mismatch, variance reduction, bias mitigation, metric design, sequential testing, and heterogeneous treatment effects. The individual contributor will build scalable Python and distributed-compute systems, partner with engineers and product teams, investigate measurement failures, establish experimentation governance, and mentor other data scientists. The position is based in Bellevue with a hybrid work model and offers a compensation range of $293,000 to $325,000 USD.
