Description

The LCLS mechanical engineering team is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support and lead the development, integration, testing, and operation of X-ray and laser scientific instruments, beamline systems, diagnostics, and target delivery systems. The role requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and at least four years of relevant experience, with responsibilities including complex instrumentation design, CAD and FEA work, vibration and thermal isolation, and project delivery. A master's degree, PhD, or additional relevant experience is preferred.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Required Previous Experiences: At least four years of experience in complex scientific instrumentation design, fabrication, assembly, testing, engineering calculations, materials evaluation, applied design rules, vibration and thermal isolation, fabrication techniques, CAD, and mechanical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, two years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering
Design of vibration and thermal isolation for complex mechanical systems
X-ray FEL, synchrotron, or laser system engineering experience
Complex 3D CAD modeling, assemblies, and beamline layouts using Solid Edge
UHV vacuum system design, operation, and maintenance
FEA tools, ANSYS, and Matlab/Python
