Gemini is hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to provide technical leadership for software and infrastructure supporting its internal engineering platform. The role focuses on building self-service systems, developer tools, automation, cloud, networking, compute, storage, CI/CD, observability, reliability, and incident-response systems, while partnering with engineering, security, data, and product teams. It requires 8+ years of relevant experience, strong software and infrastructure engineering skills, production systems ownership, and leadership across multiple teams. Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, or an equivalent combination of experience, including substantial ownership of production systems
Experience designing, operating, or improving production systems across cloud infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, deployment platforms, or related infrastructure domains
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or an equivalent system
Experience with containers and orchestration, such as Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, AKS, Docker, or Nomad, including workload deployment, networking, security, and operational troubleshooting
Experience owning and managing cloud network security controls, including network firewalls, DNS filtering, and network segmentation
Experience designing or improving CI/CD and automated software delivery systems, including testing, deployment, progressive rollout, rollback, and change validation
Experience with high-availability architectures, capacity planning, failure recovery, and the operational tradeoffs required to run critical systems at scale
Experience building secure-by-default systems and collaborating with security teams on identity, access control, secrets, supply-chain security, and policy enforcement
Track record of setting technical direction, leading architecture across multiple teams, and influencing decisions without relying on direct authority
Experience mentoring engineers, developing technical leaders, and communicating complex technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or comparable tooling
