Scale is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Research Engineer for Applied Intelligence Systems to work across agentic AI research and engineering. The role involves training and fine-tuning models, building evaluation and observability systems, developing agent architectures and internal tooling, partnering with engineering and product teams to productionize work, and setting AI/ML technical direction while mentoring senior and staff-track engineers and scientists. Candidates need at least five years of relevant experience, a PhD in a related field, and broad hands-on expertise across the agentic ML stack. The full-time position offers a base salary of $250,000–$350,000 USD for eligible locations, plus equity and benefits.
