Description

Intuit is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to set technical direction across multiple Human Capital Management engineering teams. The role owns architecture, modernization, integration contracts, reliability, security, compliance, and AI architecture and practice, including shared AI services, evaluation infrastructure, guardrails, and responsible AI boundaries. The engineer will influence roadmap and technical decisions, mentor senior engineers, resolve complex incidents, and represent HCM strategy to senior leadership. The position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, at least eight years of production software engineering experience, Staff-level technical leadership, distributed-systems expertise, full-stack capability, cloud and CI/CD experience, and production AI-system experience. The expected base pay in Toronto is $164,500-$222,500, with possible cash bonus, equity, and benefits.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale
Staff-level technical leadership spanning multiple teams
Production experience building AI systems, including LLM features, retrieval-augmented architectures, and agentic workflows
AI-first engineering practice that changed team or organizational workflows
Leading large technical initiatives through influence rather than authority
Mentoring and growing senior engineers
Preferred Qualifications: Domain experience in HR technology, payroll, workforce management, fintech, or another auditable domain
Experience architecting rules engines, calculation or ledger-style systems, or complex configurable workflow platforms
Leading modernization or re-platforming of a live, revenue-bearing legacy system
Building shared AI platform capabilities or evaluation infrastructure used by multiple product teams
Defining technical standards or governance adopted across an engineering organization
Front-end architecture at scale, including design systems, performance, and accessibility
Familiarity with data privacy, security, and employment compliance frameworks
Influencing across a large matrixed organization and multiple time zones
Prior Staff or Principal experience at a mid-to-large technology company
