Description

John Deere is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its World Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. The role leads architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of complex multisystem solutions across digital products, with full-stack leadership across React/Redux, Java/Spring Boot, Python microservices, and secure REST APIs. Responsibilities include defining architectural and non-functional requirements, establishing observability and platform standards, mentoring engineers, collaborating with product and architecture teams, and shaping AI-assisted and Vibe Coding practices. Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years designing and developing backend applications with Java frameworks, servlets, J2EE, and Spring or Spring Boot
6+ years developing frontend applications with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, and Redux
4+ years operating cloud-native systems in AWS or Azure with Docker and Kubernetes or EKS
4+ years building serverless applications with AWS Lambda and API Gateway or equivalent
5+ years designing and integrating databases with MongoDB, DynamoDB, and relational databases
Experience aligning technology strategy with architects, product leaders, and principal engineers
Experience designing secure systems and implementing OAuth, OIDC, and SAML authentication and authorization frameworks
Experience leading design reviews, mentoring engineers, and influencing teams across organizational boundaries
Hands-on observability experience with New Relic, Datadog, CloudWatch, or Grafana and SLO/SLA readiness
Experience leading engineering for scalability, reliability, performance, and availability, including autoscaling, partitioning, caching, and high availability
Preferred Qualifications: AWS or Azure cloud certifications
Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed messaging
Experience contributing to or defining cross-team architectural patterns
Strong communication and stakeholder alignment skills
Experience applying AI-assisted engineering with agentic workflows, prompt patterns, and secure guardrails
Proficiency with Vibe Coding and agentic development
