PayPal is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for Venmo Payments Engineering to lead engineering efforts, define technical tasks, improve systems and processes, and provide subject-matter expertise for payments services. The role owns the design, implementation, performance, availability, and operational excellence of scalable distributed backend services, including on-call support, while mentoring engineers and collaborating with product, engineering operations, and business teams. It requires extensive Python or equivalent programming experience, distributed systems expertise, cloud and infrastructure-as-code experience, and a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent experience.
