Description

UpGuard is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to set technical direction across Product Engineering, own architecture and scaling decisions, ship features in a squad, and raise engineering standards through review and mentoring. The role uses React, TypeScript, Go, Postgres, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform, with an emphasis on AI coding tools and large-scale risk-signal systems. Candidates should have at least eight years of relevant engineering experience, strong TypeScript and React skills, backend and database expertise, and a record of leading technical direction across multiple teams. The position is fully remote, with physical offices in Sydney and Hobart but no mandatory attendance.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: At least 8 years of relevant engineering experience at tech-centric, product-driven companies
Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams and leading people
Experience owning a hard scaling or architecture problem end to end
Preferred Qualifications: Cybersecurity experience
Experience running services on Kubernetes, ideally on GCP
Data engineering, large-scale scanning or crawling, or other high-throughput systems
Experience evolving architecture and team culture as a company scales
Experience building complex applications or systems from the ground up with a cross-functional team
