Gusto is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to work on customer-facing payroll, benefits, HR, retirement, and other small-business products. The role spans the full product lifecycle, including frontend and backend development, API design, product iteration, large-scale refactoring, performance and reliability work, and mentoring engineers. Candidates should have 10+ years of software development experience, experience with scalable Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React applications, and familiarity with AI tools and emerging AI frameworks. The position is available in Denver, San Francisco, New York, and other remote locations, with hybrid office expectations in the named office areas.
