Description
The Sterile Processing Technician processes, decontaminates, sterilizes, stores, and maintains surgical instruments and equipment for operating-room and hospital outpatient procedures. The role works under nursing supervision, follows sterilization and infection-control policies, maintains inventory and equipment, handles biohazardous materials, documents sterilization activities, and supports case turnover and quality improvement. A high school diploma or GED, BLS, eligibility for employment in the United States, and 2–4 years of experience in the field or a related area are required; sterile-processing certification is preferred. The position may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking most of the time, and irregular or extended hours.
