Description
The Surgical Assistant provides patient care before, during, and after surgery and assists the surgeon in safe and efficient operations. Responsibilities include handling surgical instruments, hemostasis, suctioning, exposure and retraction, tissue handling, suturing, wound and skin closure, sterile-field preparation, positioning, specimen documentation, and supporting robotic and laparoscopic cases. The role also supports sterile processing, supply organization, operating-room turnover, staff orientation, and perioperative team collaboration. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, completion of a formal surgical assisting program, an approved surgical assistant certification within the first twelve months of employment, BLS certification, and at least one year of experience; an associate degree and ACLS certification are preferred.
