Description

Meta is hiring a System Failure Analysis Engineer for its Hardware Quality and Reliability Engineering team. The role investigates hardware failures from field returns and customer reports across VR headsets, AR glasses, and wearable devices; identifies root causes; and drives corrective actions. It combines hardware failure analysis with software development, AI tool-building, machine learning, automated diagnostics, and cross-functional collaboration to improve product quality and reliability.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before joining Meta.
Required Previous Experiences: At least 2 years of experience in hardware failure analysis, hardware quality engineering, or reliability engineering for consumer electronics or similar electromechanical systems.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience with electrical fault isolation, optical and electron microscopy, X-ray inspection, or cross-sectioning.
At least 2 years of experience with Python, C++, or similar languages for data analysis, automation, or tool development.
Experience building data analysis pipelines, automation scripts, or diagnostic tools for engineering workflows.
Experience interpreting schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, and component datasheets for system-level fault isolation.
Experience documenting and communicating technical failure analysis findings to cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive measurable impact.
Experience developing AI or machine learning models for failure prediction, classification, or anomaly detection.
Experience implementing responsible and ethical AI practices.
Familiarity with HALT, HASS, or accelerated life testing for consumer hardware qualification.
Experience with EFFA or OFFA programs for consumer electronics.
Ongoing AI skill development and familiarity with emerging AI technologies.
Experience building internal tools, dashboards, or automated systems for engineering productivity.
Experience analyzing wearable, AR/VR, or complex consumer electronics.
Experience using statistical quality tools to identify and prioritize hardware failure trends.
