Description

Conduct complex traffic engineering studies for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), including traffic signal modifications, speed studies, roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity analyses, and special studies. The role analyzes traffic data, prepares technical reports and recommendations, manages engineering projects and activities, coordinates with government agencies, consultants, contractors, citizens, and FHWA, and supports transportation-system operations, safety, and capacity improvements.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or a related field is desired.
Required Previous Experiences: Considerable experience gathering data, developing recommendations, and making presentations.
Experience collecting and analyzing traffic-related data.
Experience designing traffic control device plans and incorporating traffic engineering requirements into roadway plans.
Experience conducting traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity.
Preferred Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and standards.
Knowledge of VDOT, state, and federal transportation engineering policies and procedures.
Proficiency with CADD, MicroStation, Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, CORSIM, SYDRA, MS Office, and project management software.
Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and provide customer service.
