Banc of California is hiring a VP, Analytics Engineering to lead the design and delivery of enterprise data products on its Data Foundation Platform. Reporting to the VP, Data Engineering & Delivery Manager, the role combines hands-on analytics engineering with player-coach leadership, overseeing a small team while partnering with engineers, product, governance, quality, and business stakeholders. The position focuses on Snowflake, dbt, SQL, Microsoft Azure, dimensional and relational modeling, data quality, CI/CD, performance optimization, and the safe use of agentic AI in a SOX-controlled environment.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Required Previous Experiences: 8+ years of progressive experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Warehouse Development, or related roles.
3+ years of experience leading technical teams, managing engineering delivery, and developing employees.
4+ years of deep hands-on experience delivering enterprise data solutions using Snowflake, dbt, SQL, and Microsoft Azure.
3+ years of advanced experience with production-grade dbt projects, including modular models, macros, testing, documentation, lineage, freshness, snapshots, and incremental processing.
5+ years of experience in dimensional and relational modeling, data warehousing, Medallion Architecture, semantic models, and modern ELT.
Experience building well-tested, reliable data pipelines using dbt tests, data contracts, and data-quality checks.
Working knowledge of batch and CDC ingestion patterns using Azure Data Factory or equivalent technologies.
Experience with Python or another modern language for data processing, automation, APIs, and scripting.
Working knowledge of Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
Experience with Git, Azure DevOps or comparable tools, CI/CD, pull requests, and automated quality gates.
Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, lineage, privacy, security, auditability, and regulatory controls.
Experience delivering data solutions in a SOX-controlled environment, including change management, control evidence, and audit support.
Experience leading Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Architecture in a regulated organization.
Banking or financial services experience, including loans, deposits, treasury products, customers, accounts, or regulatory reporting.
Experience applying agentic AI and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering delivery and establish governed, auditable AI standards.
Experience with data-quality or observability tools such as dbt tests, Great Expectations, Soda, Monte Carlo, or comparable platforms.
Relevant Snowflake, dbt, Microsoft Azure, or comparable cloud data certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent.
