Adyen Targets Up to 1,100 New Staff in 2026 as It Lowers Its Margin Goal
Adyen targets 1,000 to 1,100 net-new staff in 2026, including 399 from two acquisitions, while cutting its margin goal. See the roles, pay and how to apply.

Adyen, the Amsterdam payments company, now targets 1,000-1,100 net-new FTEs in 2026, including Talon. One and Orb, the two businesses whose purchase closed on July 1, 2026. The range is a full-year 2026 target that counts people already added this year, and 399 team members in it arrived through the two acquisitions. Adyen continues to target underlying hiring, which leaves out the acquired teams, at the same level as before. Adyen is paying for the push in staff, platform and products by lowering the EBITDA margin it expects for 2026, a change that sent its shares sharply lower in Amsterdam. For Metaintro readers in engineering, sales and legal work, this guide covers which jobs Adyen is filling, what four current listings ask for, what two of them pay, and how its hiring process works.
What Did Adyen Actually Say About Its Target of Up to 1,100 Staff?
Adyen published its Q3 2026 Business Update on October 28, 2026 for the quarter ending September 30, 2026. An FTE is a full-time equivalent.
During the third quarter, Adyen added 177 net-new team members on an underlying basis on top of the acquired staff, and it ended the quarter with 5,596 FTEs.
Two targets now sit side by side. For the full year, interim CFO Hwa Tsao's prepared remarks still put underlying hiring at 550 to 650 net-new hires on an underlying basis. The larger range also covers what Tsao called the additional hiring we are now doing in those businesses, meaning new jobs inside Talon. One and Orb on top of the staff who came over with them.
The year-to-date count on the underlying basis stood at 426 year-to-date after the third quarter. So the as many as 1,100 figure is the top of a full-year range for 2026, and it counts the acquired staff and the people already added this year as well as hiring still to come. Tsao gave the figures on Wednesday (Oct. 28) in prepared remarks for the earnings call.
Why Did Adyen Lower Its Margin Target While Hiring More?
Adyen now expects EBITDA margin of 50% in 2026, and it is discontinuing its medium-term EBITDA objective to retain flexibility.
The outlook in August was different. At that point, including Talon. One and Orb, Adyen expected 2026 EBITDA margin one percentage point lower than 2025 and still expected EBITDA margin above 55% by 2028.
Adyen's EBITDA margin was 53% in 2025, and its H1 projection for 2026 was 52%. Analysts at Degroof Petercam, a Belgian brokerage, called the shift a nasty surprise. The shares fell about 12% in Amsterdam trading after the update.
The company links the change to demand. Strong merchant interest in its joint value proposition across payments, loyalty, billing, and financial products gives it the confidence to accelerate investments in its team, platform, and products, and capital spending is expected at 7% of net revenue in 2026 before returning towards historical levels post-2026.
Serving our global enterprise merchants takes more product, engineering and go-to-market capacity, so we are accelerating our investments, interim CFO Hwa Tsao said on October 28, according to the Q3 2026 prepared remarks.
Which Jobs Is Adyen Focusing Its Hiring On?
Hiring remains targeted on specialized engineering and go-to-market roles, with a growing share in North America, Adyen's biggest focus market. These are competitive talent markets, and Adyen's compensation structure increasingly emphasizes equity-based incentives to attract and retain staff.
Adyen groups its roles into Tech, Commercial, Product and Operational career types. The operational group covers legal experts, compliance officers, number crunchers, support team members, HR, communications specialists, and more.
Adyen describes its sales and marketing teams as working to increase awareness about Adyen, guide companies through complex financial landscapes, and help them find the best solution for their business. Adyen describes its engineers as setting the bar for the future of financial technology, and product teams work with the biggest brands in the world to define where we go next.
What Are Talon. One and Orb, and Why Do They Need More People?
Adyen describes Talon. One as a leading platform for loyalty and incentives and Orb as an enterprise billing platform. Both deals officially closed after regulatory approvals, and Co-CEO Ingo Uytdehaage was personally directing the integration phase for both when they closed.
Co-CEO Ingo Uytdehaage described Orb as a billing and invoice engine focused on usage-based billing that is very relevant for the AI-native economy, and he described Adyen as now capable of signing up customers at an earlier stage in their lifecycle through it, with Vercel and Greptile given as examples. Since Orb joined, Adyen has won the payments volumes of several of their customers, including Route and Wasabi Technologies.
Adyen describes Talon. One as giving merchants the chance to combine industry-first in-store and online loyalty. In his prepared remarks for the third-quarter call, Uytdehaage mentioned an event with 200 global retailers in London that Adyen had organized for a couple of weeks later to show what the future of loyalty will look like.
Adyen describes customer interest in the combined offer as substantially stronger and broader than anticipated, so it is intentionally accelerating its planned investment behind the Talon. One and Orb teams. The two businesses together added about two percentage points to Adyen's constant currency net revenue growth in the third quarter.
What Do Current Adyen Listings Pay and Ask For?

- The Commercial Counsel role for Orb in San Francisco lists a base salary range of $160,000.00 - $212,500.00, which is based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and geographic location, and the role has an additional equity component. Where Are Adyen's Offices, and Can You Work Remotely?
Adyen lists offices spread around the globe, with North American offices in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Toronto. Its European offices include Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, London, Madrid and Warsaw, and its Asia Pacific offices include Bengaluru, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
Adyen has 239 job openings listed on its current locations page. Latin America is covered by São Paulo, Mexico City and São José dos Campos, and the Middle East by Dubai.
Remote work is limited. Adyen calls itself an office-first company that offers flexibility when needed, and the listings say we do not offer remote-only roles.
Benefits include health insurance, commute allowance, lunch in the office, plus Adyen+, a significant monthly financial contribution that all employees receive for needs such as childcare, language courses, and working from home setups.
We are not led by short-term trends, and hire specifically to meet our long-term needs, co-founder Pieter van der Does said, according to the Adyen careers page.
How Does Adyen's Hiring Process Work?
Adyen's hiring stages are an application review, a recruiter screen, a team interview, a skills assessment, a leadership interview and a final interview with a senior executive from Adyen's Management Board or Global Leadership team, though the order of each interview may vary slightly.
The skills stage is either a technical skills test or a case study presentation, depending on the role. Adyen aims to be in touch within five business days of receiving your application, and the process takes a little over a month on average, though it varies depending on the role. The Chicago engineering listing gives a shorter estimate, that the interview process tends to take about 4 weeks to complete.
Preparation goes beyond the role itself. Candidates are expected to have a solid understanding of Adyen's business, its products and the Adyen Formula, the eight principles that include we don’t hide behind email and we talk straight.
If a first application fails, there is a 30-day waiting period before you can reapply for that same position. Real messages from Adyen's team only come from email addresses ending in @adyen.com and the company will never ask for payments or personal financial information during hiring, which is a useful check against fake recruiters.
How Strong Is the Business Behind the Hiring Plan?
Third-quarter net revenue was €738.1 million, up 23% year-over-year (about $823 million), and processed volume was €451.1 billion, up 30% YoY (about $503 billion). Adyen continues to expect 2026 net revenue growth of 21% to 23% YoY on a constant currency basis.
Unified Commerce net revenue reached €250.5 million, up 29% YoY (about $279 million), and Adyen now supports 499 customers processing across channels at scale.
Platforms, which lets Adyen provide payments and financial products to smaller merchants, saw the biggest gains of the three segments, with net revenue up 46% YoY. Adyen now has 46 platform customers processing over €1 billion (about $1.1 billion) a year, up from 37 last quarter.
New business is also coming in. Tsao said this year's group of new enterprise customers is shaping up to be its largest ever. Transacting terminals across the platform reached 878k. Uytdehaage put the share of volume from a few major hyperscalers and cloud companies at about 10%.
Who Is Leading Adyen Through This Phase?
Hwa Tsao became full-time interim CFO effective September 1, 2026, after the departure of CFO Ethan Tandowsky on August 31, 2026. Gayathri Rajan was appointed Chief Product Officer (CPO) effective immediately on July 1, and she brings more than 25 years of product and technology leadership across fintech, enterprise platforms and consumer tech.
Niclas Neglen has been nominated as CFO and member of the statutory Management Board, effective February 1, 2027, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval. He joins Adyen from Klarna, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. Before that he was CFO and COO for EMEA at HSBC Private Bank, and he spent 13 years at General Electric in senior finance roles.
Adyen will provide 2027 financial objectives in February at the H2 2026 results.
What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?
The full-year range is not a count of open jobs. Adyen is also choosing to hire while competitors such as PayPal are making layoffs, a contrast with the PayPal and Coinbase cuts earlier this year.
- Aim at the growth areas. Search the Adyen locations and vacancies page for Orb, Talon. One and US roles first.
- Ask about equity. Ask how much of an offer is stock and how it vests, and compare it with colleagues using the steps for handling pay inequity with a higher-paid coworker.
- Plan for the office. Apply for a city you can work from.
- Prepare for a case study or test. Learn the principles of the Adyen Formula and the business update before the skills stage.
