Lagos Fashion Workers Can Attend Free and Try for Ten-Minute Employer Interviews at an October 23 Career Fair
Over 100 fashion businesses are expected at a free Lagos career fair on 23 October. See the interview rules, the four training pathways and how to prepare.

Fashion professionals across Nigeria can attend the Fashion Career Fair 2026 for free, with a virtual summit on Thursday 22 October and an in-person fair in Lagos on Friday 23 October, where hiring employers hold ten-minute interviews from 12pm. More than 100 fashion businesses are expected to take part, and the organiser, Obsidian Advisory Africa, runs a ₦10,000 training sprint that will train 500 fashion talents for in-demand roles before the fair. This guide is for tailors, machinists, pattern drafters, quality control officers, sales associates, brand assistants and studio staff who want a job in the industry. For Metaintro readers, the useful detail sits on the organiser's own pages, covering the timetable, the passes, the four training pathways and what fashion employers say they are short of. Here is that detail, step by step.
What Is Happening on October 22 and 23?
The 2026 fair is the 5th edition of the Fashion Career Fair, following editions in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. It runs over two days in two formats.
- Day one, online. On Thu 22 Oct at 10am, a live panel covers what fashion employers actually need, plus a practical workshop of your choice and a full briefing for fair day, with the option to join on Zoom or watch on YouTube.
- Employer town hall. On Fri 23 Oct at 10am in Lagos, employers and partners review a new labour market report and commit to the opportunities they are bringing to the fair floor.
- Speed interviews. From 12pm on Fri 23 Oct, candidates sit ten-minute interviews with hiring employers.
- Clinics and networking. All afternoon, industry practitioners give one-to-one CV, online profile and portfolio reviews, and a curated lounge pairs talent with employers and mentors.
The virtual day is open to participants across Nigeria, and its workshops cover professional visibility and how fashion businesses operate. A closing briefing explains what to expect at the physical fair and how to prepare for employer engagements, so it is worth staying online to the end of the day. The town hall is where businesses discuss workforce needs, skills gaps and recruitment challenges before the Career Fair opens the floor for on-the-spot hiring and networking.
Where Is the Fair, and How Do You Get In?
The in-person day is at the J.K. Randle Centre, J.K. Randle Road, Onikan Roundabout, Onikan 102273, Lagos. The fair is set to take place at J. Randle, Lagos, the J.Randle Centre for Yorùbá Culture and History on Lagos Island, which honours Dr. John Randle, who built a public swimming pool in 1928 in King George V Park, later known as Love Garden. The centre is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance, which does not affect the Friday fair day.
Entry for job seekers comes through the free Fair pass, which is open to job seekers, graduates, freelancers and creatives across every fashion career track. The pass covers these four things.
- The virtual summit on day one, plus one workshop
- Entry to the career fair in Lagos on day two
- Speed interview slots, first come, first served
- Career clinics and curated networking
Registration for the pass runs through the Register free link on the fair page. Talent can attend both days for free, and the training sprint is optional, so completing the training programme is not compulsory for entry.
Jobs aren't guaranteed, but employers interview and make offers on the day, according to the Fashion Career Fair FAQ.
How Do the Ten-Minute Interviews Work?
Every speed interview lasts ten minutes. Graduates of the training sprint arrive with a confirmed slot, and other slots go first come, first served. Fair pass holders get speed interview slots, first come, first served, so register for the free pass and be there for the 12pm start.
Candidates should come prepared with a CV or portfolio. Attending does not guarantee employment, and on-the-spot hiring is expected to form part of the activities rather than promised for every candidate.
The initiative aims to connect trained talents with businesses seeking skilled workers across different segments of the fashion value chain. Ten minutes is short, so rehearse a short elevator pitch before you go.
What Is the Sprint Recruitment Programme?
The Sprint Recruitment Programme, or SRP, offers two weeks of virtual, role-specific training before the fair, starting 28 September. It is billed as a fully funded, two week intensive train to hire program, and talent registration carries a registration fee of ₦10,000, which is a commitment fee because the program itself is free.
The SRP package includes training in one of four fashion career pathways, a confirmed speed interview slot at the fair and pre-matching to relevant employers. Placement is not guaranteed, since registration does NOT guarantee employment. Many participants will get matched with roles, Obsidian says, but the outcome depends on your performance and fit during the process, and top performers are matched with employers at Fashion Career Fair 2026.
Registration and start dates differ across the SRP page, from a 15 Sept 2026 close and a 17 Sept 2026 start to a 26 Sept close ahead of a 28 Sept 2026 start. Either way, there is no late intake for this cohort, so the free Fair pass is the route in for anyone outside the sprint.
Which Roles Does the Training Cover?
Every SRP applicant joins one of four pathways, and the roles below are the ones the pathways name, as training tracks rather than jobs employers have confirmed for the fair.
- Pathway 01, Technical and Production, covers Tailor / Garment Technician, Machinist (Industrial), Quality Control Officer, Production Manager / Supervisor, Technical Designer and Pattern Drafter.
- Pathway 02, Retail and Customer Experience, covers Retail Assistant / Store Assistant, Sales Associate, Customer Experience Associate, E-commerce Assistant and Client Service Assistant.
- Pathway 03, Creative and Brand Support, covers Brand Assistant, Social Media Assistant, Marketing Assistant and Content Creator (Fashion).
- Pathway 04, Fashion Business and Administration, covers Administrative Assistant, Business Support Assistant, Studio Assistant, Operations Assistant and Executive / Personal Assistant.
The programme is aimed at fashion professionals looking to sharpen technical, creative, or business skills within the industry, and also at non-fashion professionals moving into production, retail, brand support or business administration. Fresh graduates and anyone currently unemployed or underemployed are named too, and SRP welcomes talent and businesses from any industry. The eligibility rule is narrower and covers practicing fashion professionals and entry-level talents who already have some grounding in the industry, gained through formal education, hands-on training, or work experience, and SRP is built for people ready to step into roles or internships, not a beginner's introduction to fashion.
For the brand, marketing and content pathways, the wording of your CV matters, and these creative application keywords are a starting point.
What Do Fashion Employers Say They Are Short Of?
The town hall reviews the new labour market study, which is Obsidian's The State of the Nigerian Fashion Workforce 2026. It was researched between October 2025 and February 2026 through a labour market survey, a business survey, focus groups and key informant interviews with ten senior industry figures, with respondents concentrated in Lagos.
The study's headline mismatch is that employers need production skills, while workers want business skills. Businesses cite technical sewing, pattern drafting, and finishing as their most acute shortages, while around 40% of workers name business management as their top development priority.
Around two-thirds of fashion businesses say they would host interns or apprentices, and in the 2026 study, Nigeria's fashion industry contributes an estimated $6.1 billion to national GDP. On terms of work, most fashion workers have no employment contract, with verbal agreements the norm, which is a reason to ask any employer at the fair for the offer in writing. Fashion professionals are invited to use the pay benchmarks in negotiation, and the full PDF is emailed to readers who enter their details.
What Do Fashion Jobs on Obsidian's Board Pay?
Obsidian runs a jobs board of fashion vacancies as well, and pay for some of the skilled roles on it is set out below. None of the quality control, pattern maker or couture tailor listings mentions the fair.
The RTW Pattern Maker role at Omadili, a women's ready-to-wear house, is based in Omole, Lagos, with working days from Tuesdays to Saturdays. It pays ₦150,000 to ₦200,000 monthly, based on experience and skill level, and the work includes drafting, cutting and truing master patterns and grading patterns across the full size range for ready-to-wear production.
The Quality Control Specialist role at Ethnocentrique is based in Aba and pays ₦300,000 to ₦500,000, negotiable based on experience. Its preferred requirements include a degree in Fashion Design, Quality Management, or a related discipline, a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in quality control within the fashion, garment manufacturing, apparel, or textile industry, a strong understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, fabric types, measurements, finishing, and apparel quality standards and experience conducting in-line and final garment inspections. The work mode is Monday to Friday or as duty demands, so weekends are indirectly involved.
Pay on the same board is not always monthly, since a Couture Tailor role in Warri, Delta State, pays ₦30,000 to ₦40,000 per outfit, depending on the technicality of the piece, and it works Mondays to Fridays, 9:00am to 5:30pm. The short summaries on the jobs board's index page do not always match the full listings, as the Aba location of the quality control role shows, so open each listing before applying, since the location and pay that count are on the individual page.
Who Is Obsidian Advisory Africa?
Obsidian is a workforce development and human capital advisory firm for the creative and fashion industries in Africa. Since 2021, Obsidian has empowered over 6,000 youth through inclusive training, career advisory, and employment support programs and operates Nigeria's first fashion job centre, a hybrid training centre and job centre, the firm says.
Its work has been delivered in partnership with organisations including the Mastercard Foundation, GIZ and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), the firm says, and it has also cited work with the LSETF and Ethnocentrique on workforce and employment programmes. Obsidian's fashion workforce study grew out of the Fashion Lab Series that Obsidian convened at Lagos Fashion Week 2025.
We’re not just creating a space for talent and employers to meet. We’re building the infrastructure that gets people hired, Obsidian founder and CEO Damilola Ademilokun said, according to the BusinessDay report.
How Do Employers Take Part?
Businesses that want hiring access at the fair register as a hiring partner for ₦50,000, and the free town hall registration doesn't include hiring access. The ₦50,000 is a one-off hiring fee to access the trained and pre-screened SRP talents.
Employers can also join free as a Participating Employer, with a seat at the employer town hall, speed interviews with talents at the Fair and limited role slots. Attendance at the Fashion Career Fair is free for both businesses and talents, so employers can take part on 23 October either as paying hiring partners or as free participants. The morning town hall is where employers and partners commit to the opportunities they're bringing to the fair floor.
What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?
Our take is that this fair is a practical, free door into Nigerian fashion businesses for skilled people, and talent can attend both days for free. It is not a promise of a job, since jobs aren't guaranteed. The figures in the headlines are expectations, with more than 100 businesses expected to participate and the training sprint, which will train 500 fashion talents.
Here is what we would do:
- Register for the Fair pass now. It is the free route to both days, and it covers speed interview slots, first come, first served, plus career clinics.
- Attend the virtual day. The Thu 22 Oct panel covers what fashion employers actually need, and you also pick a practical workshop of your choice.
- Be there on time. Open interview slots go first come, first served, and speed interviews run from 12pm on Fri 23 Oct.
- Bring proof of your work. Come with your CV or portfolio, as the organiser advises, and if you work in production, bring photos of garments you cut, sewed or finished.
- Lead with production skills if you have them. Technical sewing, pattern drafting and finishing are the shortages businesses call most acute.
- Ask for terms in writing. If you get an offer, ask for a written contract, since verbal agreements are the norm in the industry.
