Direct Hiring Demand Monitor

Labor demand, read every morning, straight from employers.

A daily report and data feed on open jobs at 280,000 employers, collected from their own career sites, applicant tracking systems and public employment services. Same-store changes with stated uncertainty, occupation, metro and ticker signals, and a published track record against BLS.

  • 5M+ live postings
  • 280K+ employers
  • 860+ tickers
  • Daily at 07:00 ET

Why it's different

A signal you can read, not a count that drifts.

Raw posting counts move whenever coverage moves. The monitor holds its panel steady, states its uncertainty and grades its own coverage.

  • Same-store, not raw counts

Employers join the panel after 14 days. New boards, dead boards and catch-up fetches move the level, never the index or the rankings.

  • Uncertainty you can see

The headline carries a 95% interval, and a move that could be noise is reported as “changed little”. Most private labor indicators publish no uncertainty at all.

  • Coverage you can audit

Every edition is graded A, B or C by how completely employer boards were fetched, and both first prints and revisions are published.

What's in each edition

From the headline to the ticker, every morning.

Each edition opens with a seasonally adjusted 28-day headline and its interval, then breaks demand down by occupation, place and listed company.

  • Headline core change: unadjusted over 7 days, seasonally adjusted over 28 days
  • 355 detailed occupations and 23 major groups, ranked against the market
  • All US states, 850+ metro areas and 150+ countries
  • A ticker screen with organic change, weeks sustained and coverage flags
  • Posted pay against BLS OEWS medians

The feed

The same numbers, as files you can load.

Every edition ships as data as well as a report, stamped and defined so a day's files stack onto the last.

  • 13 data files every day plus a data dictionary, with JSON and the report
  • Every row is stamped with its edition, so files stack into point-in-time history
  • A data dictionary defines every column, and the schema is versioned

Track record

Scored in public.

Every edition estimates the next BLS JOLTS job openings print before it is released. The estimate is logged in a file that ships with the edition, then scored against the first print once BLS publishes.

  • Logged before every JOLTS release
  • Scored against the BLS first print
  • No interval shown until six months are scored
