Description

WEX is hiring a Principal Software Engineer, Semantic Data Services to define and build the architecture and reusable semantic data platform for its enterprise Data-as-a-Service offering. The role combines senior technical leadership with hands-on engineering across semantic modeling, ontologies, metadata, knowledge graphs, data quality, lineage, governance, APIs, and distributed systems, while partnering with business, product, AI, analytics, risk, finance, and other teams. Candidates need 10+ years of relevant software, data, distributed systems, or platform experience, with strong architectural judgment, cross-team influence, and the ability to translate complex business concepts into scalable technical capabilities.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 10+ years of software engineering, data engineering, distributed systems, data platforms, or related technology experience at Staff, Principal, or equivalent technical scope
Experience designing and building large-scale production platforms
Experience with modern data architecture, large-scale processing, streaming, lakehouse architectures, and distributed systems
Experience building a semantic data layer
Experience with semantic modeling, ontologies, metadata platforms, knowledge graphs, data catalogs, or enterprise data modeling
Experience building platforms adopted across multiple engineering teams, business domains, or product organizations
Experience defining reusable frameworks, APIs, standards, or platform capabilities adopted beyond an individual team
Preferred Qualifications: Experience building platforms supporting AI/ML, generative AI, RAG, or agentic applications
Experience with knowledge representation, semantic search, context engineering, graph technologies, or AI-ready enterprise data
Experience modernizing large enterprise data ecosystems with multiple business domains and legacy systems
Experience with Spark, Flink, Kafka, Iceberg, Snowflake, Databricks, cloud-native data services, graph databases, or equivalent large-scale data technologies
