Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer - Responsible AI to design and develop large-scale distributed cloud services for Responsible AI, including customer-facing AI services, Azure AI Content Safety, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Studio, and related infrastructure. The role owns the full development lifecycle, production readiness, service architecture, DevOps practices, and collaboration with engineers, scientists, and product managers. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least four years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. Preferred qualifications include experience with highly available cloud services, machine learning model operations, AI tools, safety and governance platforms, inference and policy systems, multimodal safety infrastructure, and agent governance. The role offers a typical U.S. base pay range of USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
