AI-cited cuts

Layoffs where the company tied the cuts to AI or automation

25 layoff announcements from 25 companies tied the cuts to AI or automation in 2026 through November 5. Those that stated a number add up to 56,223 jobs, 15% of all jobs reported affected in this report.

A cut counts as AI-cited when its tracker summary says the company cited, framed or tied it to AI or automation, or when Metaintro's AI-cited layoffs tracker lists it. A summary that says the company did not cite AI does not count.

Methodology

Which tracker rows count, and why some are held out

Which rows count

This report uses only Layoffs Tracker rows whose provenance passes the tracker's own rules. A row must pass all four checks:

  1. Published and dated in 2026, on or before the as-of date. The date is the day the company or a filing made the action public, in UTC, not the day the cuts take effect.
  2. It links a source: the primary source (a company statement, filing or original news report), a state WARN notice, or a published Metaintro story that reports the announcement.
  3. Its figures are in a source. A jobs or stores figure counts only when the row links a verified primary source or WARN notice, or when one of its linked Metaintro stories states that exact number in digits. That is the same check the tracker runs when it records a row. A row that fails is held out entirely, not counted as zero.
  4. One row per announcement. A second row for the same company and the same kind of action within 14 days of an earlier row is treated as a repeat, and only the earlier row counts.

How jobs are counted

Jobs affected is counted only when a source states a number, and is never estimated. Every total here is the plain sum of stated numbers over 2026 through November 5, so it is a floor: announcements without a number are left out, and figures are each company's announcement total, which can include jobs outside the US.

What this report leaves out

Sector: tracker rows do not record an industry, so there is no sector breakdown. Earlier years: these checks are applied to 2026 rows only, so the report makes no comparison with past years.

As-of date

2026 is not over, so every figure is year to date and updates as announcements are verified, until December 31. The page refreshes every few hours. See the tracker methodology for how rows are recorded.
