All Aboard: Zum's Hiring Drive
Looking for a fresh career path or a side gig driving students to school? In April 2025, Palm Springs was the place to look. Zum, the school transportation company, held a two-day hiring event on April 2 and 3, 2025, to find drivers and attendants for its new Palm Springs Unified School District (PSUSD) contract. The event is now over, but here is what Zum offered and how hiring turned out.
Palm Springs Calling
Before you think chauffeuring kids is child’s play, think again. Zum set out to hire over 75 certified school bus drivers, 8 van drivers (non-CDL), and 24 attendants or monitors. What was in it for workers? Zum said it offers competitive pay, flexibility, and modern benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and 401K, plus state-of-the-art buses.
Zum trains and certifies its drivers through SafeGuard, its own driver training and certification program. The van driver roles did not require a CDL, and Zum invited both experienced drivers and people looking for a new career to apply.

A Modern Spin on School Transport
Not just about strapping in and zooming off (pun fully intended), the new contract also brings more tech for families.
Dr. Tony Signoret, PSUSD Superintendent of Schools, said families will experience state-of-the-art technology that gives them greater visibility into their child’s bus location and driver. With Zum serving more than 4,000 schools nationwide across 14 states, including California, the company is no newbie on the block.
Zum Founder and CEO Ritu Narayan said the partnership signals a growing national movement for modern, safe and equitable student transportation.
Zum calls school transportation the largest mass transit system in the U.S., and it wants drivers to help modernize it.
The hiring events took place at the Courtyard Marriott Palm Springs. In an August 13, 2025 update, Zum said the district was fully staffed with over 80 drivers and 30 attendants ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
If you missed the events, Zum lists open driver and depot roles on its careers page. Check the page for current openings near you.
