Description

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to define and build the Linux-based platform software for future Juniper networking platforms. The role combines platform software development, hardware enablement, system architecture, low-level driver and service development, hardware/software integration, root-cause analysis, and technical leadership. It is primarily onsite at an HPE office and requires 10+ years of experience in networking, embedded, or infrastructure system software, along with strong C/C++ and Linux systems programming skills. The listed United States base salary range is USD 172,000–349,000 in California, with variable incentives possibly offered.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Required Previous Experiences: 10+ years developing system software for networking, embedded, or infrastructure platforms
Experience developing software for routers, switches, firewalls, or networking appliances
Experience bringing up hardware platforms from early development through production deployment
Experience debugging complex hardware/software integration problems
Experience designing reusable platform abstractions and hardware-independent software layers
Experience leading architecture reviews and cross-functional technical decisions
Experience with high availability, ISSU, redundancy, resiliency, monitoring, and observability
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with routing, switching, network operating systems, chassis systems, or distributed networking platforms
Familiarity with networking platform infrastructure, including platform, chassis, environmental monitoring, hardware inventory, telemetry, and interface management
Experience with networking ASICs, network processors, switch silicon, or SmartNICs
Experience with Ethernet MAC/PHY, optics, high-speed SerDes, gearbox devices, or FEC technologies
Familiarity with Broadcom, Marvell, Silicon One, Innovium, Barefoot, or similar networking silicon
Working knowledge of PCIe, I2C, SPI, MDIO, FPGA, CPLD, and other hardware interfaces
Experience designing software supporting multiple hardware platforms and product generations
Experience leading architecture reviews and cross-functional technical decisions
Experience with high availability, ISSU, redundancy, resiliency, monitoring, and observability
Experience designing software for large-scale networking systems and chassis-based platforms
