Medvantx Pledges 122 Louisville Pharmacy Jobs, but Only Three Are Posted So Far
Medvantx pledged 122 Louisville jobs at a $35.22 average hourly target. Only three roles are posted so far. What they need and how to get ready to apply.

Medvantx has promised 122 new Kentucky jobs at its expanded Louisville pharmacy, a $26.8 million project the governor helped open on September 16. If you are a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician or a fulfillment worker in the Louisville area, the short answer is that the jobs are real but most of them are not posted yet. The company's own career center lists three openings today. At Metaintro we check a ribbon cutting against the incentive record and the live postings, because those two documents tell you what the jobs pay and when they arrive. Here is what both say, and how to be ready before the bulk of the hiring opens.
What Did Medvantx Actually Open in Louisville?
A new, much larger pharmacy, not a warehouse. The new site opened in August and more than doubles the company's Louisville footprint while tripling its cold-chain capacity, which is the refrigerated storage that specialty and temperature-sensitive medicines need.
The work inside is dispensing and shipping. The operation fills prescriptions for patients across Kentucky and the rest of the United States and its territories, with much of it running through drug company programs that send free or low-cost medicine to patients who need help paying. Pharmacists on staff also counsel those patients.
The site sits on New Cut Road in Louisville. The postings on the company's career center tag the location as Louisville, Fairdale, KY, which is worth knowing if you are searching job boards by neighborhood rather than by city.
Scale matters for your prospects too. Last year the company served more than 10,000 Kentuckians and hundreds of thousands of patients across the country. It runs two nationally licensed mail-order pharmacies and handles programs for five of the country's 10 largest patient assistance schemes, so the volume behind these jobs does not depend on one customer.
How Many of the 122 Jobs Can You Apply for Today?
Three, and none of them is a technician job. The public Medvantx career center, reached through the Open Positions button on its careers page, listed exactly these roles on September 18, all at the Louisville site.
- A full-time Staff Pharmacist, posted September 4.
- A part-time Staff Pharmacist, posted September 1.
- A full-time Full Stack Developer Lead, posted September 3.
The pharmacist posting asks for a current pharmacist license in your home state and at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, with licenses in other states listed as desirable. The duties are verification at order entry and at dispensing, drug utilization review and oversight of the technicians, support and customer service staff in the prescription chain. It is also a standing job. The posting expects you to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
The developer role is a senior one. It asks for a minimum of six years of full-stack experience in Microsoft technologies, SQL Server and Azure, plus a place on an on-call rotation for production support.
None of the three postings shows a pay range, and none sets out a hiring timeline for the rest of the 122 promised jobs. The local coverage found the same gap, noting that timelines and specific job titles have not been made public.
What Does Kentucky's Incentive Record Say About Pay?
This is the most useful number in the whole story, and it comes from the state approval rather than the ribbon cutting.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the Medvantx deal at its board meeting on Thursday, October 31 in 2024. The record for that meeting lists the project as 122 jobs with an average hourly wage target of $35.22, including employee benefits, alongside $1.4 million in tax incentives through the Kentucky Business Investment program.
Read that figure carefully before you quote it in a salary talk. It is an average across all 122 roles, pharmacists and developers included, and it counts benefits as well as wages. Individual roles will land above or below it, so do not assume it is the rate for your job. What it does tell you is the pay level the company agreed to be measured against.
Compare it with the legal floor. Under the program's current fact sheet, at least 90% of new full-time staff outside heritage counties must earn at least $21.75 an hour, and total hourly compensation including benefits must reach at least $25.01. Jefferson County does not appear on the fact sheet's list of heritage counties, so the higher floor is the relevant one. Those thresholds come from the July 2026 version of the rules, and the terms negotiated in 2024 may differ, but they show the program is built to reward jobs above entry-level retail pay.
The state record lists 122 jobs with an average hourly wage target of $35.22, including benefits, which is the pay level Medvantx agreed to be measured against.
The investment figure moved slightly between the two dates. The authority approved a $26.9 million project in 2024, and the opening release put it at $26.8 million. The job count stayed the same.
What Happens if Medvantx Misses Its Hiring Targets?
The money is conditional, which is good news for anyone waiting on these jobs. Kentucky does not hand over the incentive up front. The company recovers it through tax credits and wage assessments after it proves the jobs exist.
The rules are specific. A company must meet the minimum job, wage and investment requirements by its activation date under the program, and if it does not, the agreement is considered cancelled. After activation, projects that hit at least 90% of their job and wage targets can claim the full annual amount, and projects that fall short lose a matching share of the next year's incentive.
Only full-time jobs count. The program defines a full-time job as one where the person works a minimum of 35 hours per week, and at least one company-paid benefit is required. For a job seeker that means the jobs tied to the incentive are meant to be full-time roles with benefits, not a pool of part-time shifts.
One detail workers often worry about is the wage assessment. The fact sheet is plain that the employee receives credits for the fees against state income taxes and local occupational taxes, so there is no impact on the employee.
The clock is also written down. Final approval can come up to 3 years after preliminary approval, and activation must follow within 2 years after final approval. That window helps explain why the headline says 122 jobs while the career center shows three. Companies can hire toward the target over time, and the state measures the result at activation and then every year after.
What Will Pharmacy Technicians Actually Do Inside an Automated Pharmacy?
More machine tending and checking, less counting by hand. The new pharmacy was built with the automation company iA, also known as Innovation Associates, and uses robotics, automated conveyance and RFID-enabled routing to move orders from intake through dispensing. The stated aim is to reduce manual touchpoints.
That does not remove the technician. It changes the task list. Kentucky's technician regulation, 201 KAR 2:045, already spells out work that fits a line like this one. A registered technician may, under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, stock and load an automated filling or dispensing system using barcode technology, enter orders into a database, prepare and affix labels, and count and pour prescription drugs.
Certification opens more of the work. A certified technician can be delegated any function within the practice of pharmacy except patient counseling, drug utilization review, interpreting prescriptions, final product verification and taking new verbal orders. In an automated pharmacy, that difference decides whether you are loading the robot or running the exceptions the robot kicks out.
Cold chain adds its own skills. The pharmacy handles specialty and temperature-sensitive products and medical devices under cGMP rules, so experience with temperature logs, packaging validation or controlled storage is worth putting at the top of a resume.

How Do You Get Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in Kentucky?
Every technician in the state must be registered with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy. The process is short and cheap, and it is the step most applicants leave too late.
- Create an NABP e-Profile ID first. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy number is required on every technician application.
- Open an account on the Board's Licensure Gateway and submit the initial application, which carries a $25 fee.
- File within thirty (30) calendar days of starting work at a pharmacy, which is the legal deadline.
- Renew every year. Registrations expire on March 31, renewal opens February 1, and a lapsed registration adds a $25 delinquent fee.
- Tell the Board within fourteen (14) calendar days if you change employer, which matters if you move from a retail counter to Medvantx.
Certification is separate from registration. Kentucky recognizes you as a certified technician once you have passed the PTCE from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or the ExCPT from the National Healthcareer Association, and the certificate is current. Our guide to pharmacy technician and pharmacist careers walks through the training routes into both exams.
What Does Medvantx Offer Staff Beyond the Paycheck?
The company's own careers page is more detailed than the announcement, and two items stand out for technicians.
The first is a CPHT Certification Program, listed alongside pharmacy licensure support and professional coaching. If the employer helps you pass the certification exam, that is the fastest route from registered to certified technician and into the broader duties the regulation allows.
The second is process training. Medvantx lists Yellow Belt and Green Belt Training with certifications, plus a program called Labs to Leaders. In a pharmacy built around conveyors and routing, process improvement is the skill that moves a technician toward a lead or operations job.
The rest of the list is standard but worth confirming at offer stage. It includes a 401k with company match, accrued paid time off for non-exempt employees working 20 hours or more, and company-paid disability leave that covers paid pregnancy and parental leave. The same page describes a remote-first, flexible work environment, which applies to office roles rather than to anyone dispensing medicine on New Cut Road.
Why Does Louisville Keep Winning Pharmacy Fulfillment Jobs?
Because of the runway. The new pharmacy was chosen partly for its close proximity to the UPS Worldport global air hub, and it builds on a 12-year partnership with the UPS Healthcare logistics business.
This is not the first expansion. In January 2020 Medvantx doubled its pharmacy space inside the UPS Supply Chain Solutions campus, and at the time it ran an order cutoff of 1AM ET for expedited shipping on the UPS air network. A late cutoff like that shapes the work schedule, so ask about evening and overnight shifts when you apply.
The state program is designed for exactly this kind of employer. The Kentucky Business Investment fact sheet lists distribution or fulfillment centers as eligible non-retail activity when more than half the customer base sits outside Kentucky. A pharmacy shipping to every state appears to fit that test, which helps explain why Louisville keeps landing these projects.
The local group One Louisville, the economic development agency, points to the same strength, naming UPS Worldport and UPS Healthcare Labport as the case it makes to life sciences companies. For workers, that concentration is the real benefit. Skills learned on one automated pharmacy line transfer to the next employer near the airport.
What This Means for Job Seekers, and What Should You Do Next?
The honest read is that this is a state-backed hiring commitment with a deadline and a penalty, not a hiring day. That makes these jobs more reliable than most hiring announcements, and slower. The state only pays out if the company fills full-time roles at the agreed wage target, so the incentive works in the favor of anyone who applies.
Pharmacists have the clearest path today. Two roles are open now, full time and part time, and a current pharmacist license is the entry ticket. If you hold one, apply through the company's own career center rather than waiting for the listings to be copied elsewhere.
Technicians should use the gap. The technician openings are not live yet, so spend the time on the two things that decide who gets hired into an automated pharmacy. Get your Board registration process understood, and push toward certification, because a certified technician can take on almost every task short of the pharmacist's judgment calls.
Treat the average wage target as a negotiating reference, not a promise. It covers every role and includes benefits. Ask at interview what the hourly rate is for your specific job, whether the role is one of the full-time positions counted under the state agreement, and which shift you would work given the air hub schedule.
Watch the career center, not the headline. When the technician and fulfillment roles post, they will appear there first, and the people who have their registration and certification sorted will be the ones ready to start inside the thirty-day filing window.
